David Cobley
David is one of the UK's leading portrait painters, and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1997. He was short-listed for the prestigious John Player (now the BP) Portrait Award in 1989 and has carried out commissions for many institutions up and down the country, including English National Ballet, The Royal Horse Artillery, The Royal Engineers, The Royal Marines, The Royal Navy, several Oxford colleges, Shell UK, Taylor Woodrow plc, and Whitbread plc. He was made a member of the Royal West of England Academy in 2001.
Among his sitters are The Princess Royal, Ken Dodd OBE, Dame Alicia Markova, The Lord Mayor of London, Mr Steven Berkoff and Sir Timothy Sainsbury.
He divides his time between commissioned portraits and paintings of the figure, and exhibits with the New English Art Club, The Discerning Eye, The Hunting Art Prizes, the Royal Academy, Beaux Arts Bath and The Everard Read Gallery in South Africa.
